MyAdvocate is intended to assist you in tracking and monitoring your FCV (Forced-Cough Vocalization), symptoms/vital signs and diary entries on either your respiratory illness journey (MyAdvocate FCV Check) or on your to quit smoking (MyAdvocate Smoker Recovery) or to quit vaping (MyAdvocate Vape Recovery). When used regularly, the MyAdvocate apps track respiratory recovery and symptom/vital signs tracking, much the same way a bathroom scale functions for monitoring weight and weight loss.
The MyAdvocate family of apps require each user to set what is referred to as a “Baseline”. This is a process where each user teaches the particular MyAdvocate app to recognize their unique Forced Cough Vocalization (FCV), otherwise known as an intentional cough.
To do this, the MyAdvocate app guides you through a simple process of providing these cough samples. Please refer to the guide below, depending on which MyAdvocate app you're subscribed to.
MyAdvocate Smoker Recovery & MyAdvocate Vape Recovery Baseline Process:
These apps require 2 cough samples 3 different times with a minimum 2-hr forced break between samples.
- Step 1: MyAdvocate will ask you to record your cough 2 times in a row. Each time you record, we’ll ask for at least 10 individual cough sounds. Once you’re done, MyAdvocate will tell you to come back in 2 hours and record 2 more samples.
- Step 2: At least 2 hours after your first baseline samples are collected, it will be time to come back to MyAdvocate and provide your second set of samples. Once you’ve completed this second step, MyAdvocate will tell you to come back at least 2 hours later.
- Step 3: This is the final step to setting your baseline. Once you provide 2 more cough samples, MyAdvocate will tell you that you are all set. One hour later, you can use MyAdvocate as often as every 30 minutes to do a self-check at any time.
MyAdvocate FCV Check Baseline Process:
The app requires 30 approved cough samples to set your Baseline. We ask you to cough at least 5 times per sample set, so you'll likely need to complete 5-6 separate Baseline Cough sets to in order to complete your Baseline. Note that after each set a minimum 2-hr forced break will take place between samples.
- Step 1: MyAdvocate FCV Check will ask you to record your cough sample set with at least 5 coughs in a given set.
- Step 2: After you've done a Baseline Cough Set, MyAdvocate FCV Check will tell you to take a break and come back in 2 hours to record more samples. This is to rest your voice and respiratory system.
- Step 3: After the 2-hour rest, you may resume providing your Baseline coughs. MyAdvocate FCV Check will pause you once again after each Baseline Cough Set in order to capture Baseline cough samples from a broader timeframe during the day, as respiratory illnesses symptoms may wax and wane during the course of the day. (If you still have not reached 30 approved coughs, MyAdvocate FCV Check will still ask you to rest for 2-hr after each additional Baseline Cough Set.)
After setting your initial FCV Baseline, users can come back to complete a "Self-Check" of their FCV up to every 30 minutes.
Also, after setting an initial Baseline, users are free - and encouraged to - track symptoms/vital signs with the symptom/vitals tracker feature. This feature provides a fast, easy way to track bothersome symptoms that can show up once you’ve quit, and show you how far you’ve come as your symptoms disappear over time. the diary feature allows users to document more granular thoughts, feelings and discoveries about their quitting journey in their own words to refer back to at any time.
Additionally, to assist in the journey (whether respiratory illness or quitting smoking or vaping), the cough data, symptom/vitals tracking and diary features are all sharable with those assisting the user in their journey, such as a physician or counselor.
This mobile tracker does not diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease or condition.
